On 19 September, "The Campus Advisor" published its latest ranking of the most liveable university cities according to various criteria, based on feedback and opinions from university students. Pécs has jumped from 46th place last year to 14th, ahead of world famous university cities such as London, Krakow, Barcelona and Paris. The Hungarian capital also made the ranking: Budapest just missed out on the imaginary podium.
The ranking ranks cities on criteria such as academic excellence, student-friendly atmosphere, value for money in terms of cost, cultural diversity, safety and nightlife, among others.
Interesting fact, Pécs won the category of costs and expenses, making it the most liveable university city in Europe!
Dr. István Tarrósy, Director of International Centre at the University of Pécs, commented on the recent ranking: "I think that
everyone in Pécs and at the University of Pécs can be proud of this result, but every Hungarian can feel the success as their own,
since our capital and the Baranya county also achieved outstanding results. It is also telling that our city has moved up more than 30 places compared to last year's ranking. It is no coincidence that the tendency that we have observed at our university is that the number of foreign students has doubled in the space of a few years. The fact that UP is becoming more and more popular with people from beyond our borders is a great feedback to us that the international strategy we defined years ago is solidly based and on the right track. And the ranking that has just been published confirms this in an objective way," he said.
The top three places were taken by Prague, Heidelberg and Galway, with Budapest just one tenth behind.
